At Dezrezlegal we have found that promoting from within is not only hugely beneficial to the company but also a great opportunity for those among us looking for funded in-house opportunities without going all the way back to university. So what is it actually like undertaking the CLC training course – the route to becoming a Licensed Conveyancer?
Working full time whilst undertaking the course is challenging and the majority of evenings are spent reading and writing assignments. On the other hand, working within such a supportive and friendly office more than makes up for that and having a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips from such experienced Solicitors and Conveyancers is priceless.
There is no way around it, the course itself is demanding and not for the faint hearted, not that I’m dramatic or anything! Depending on whether a candidate has previous legal qualifications, the CLC does offer exemptions from certain exams and I am lucky enough to only be completing 3 modules, the first of which is now over and the obligatory nervous wait for exam results is on!
The exam itself was quite an experience, after being waved off by my colleagues I somehow managed to find my way to London. Work were good enough to book me a train and a hotel and I only found myself on the wrong tube line once, yes, sadly that is an achievement for me.
Waiting in the line to go into the exam all the usual thoughts were going through my head and judging by the jittery looks on everyone else’s faces, we were all equally nervous about what lovely questions they were going to throw at us.
As is always the case though, as soon as I opened the exam paper I realised that things are never as bad as they seem. The questions weren’t horrific, I didn’t seem to have any gaps in my knowledge and dare I say once I’d given myself a “you’ve got this” mental pep talk, it was over before I knew it!
I guess that feeling could sum up the course in general really. There are times when it does seem a bit daunting but as long as you hold onto a drive to succeed and keep the end goal in sight, the course is actually very rewarding and incredibly beneficial.
